FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo police on Monday released the names of two men discovered dead inside an apartment last month during a welfare check.
Officers identified the men as Thomas William Mausbach, 79, and Huanan Tao, 40, both of Fargo. Investigators believe the two men lived together at the residence.
Police were dispatched shortly before 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 to an apartment in the 3100 block of 44th Street South. A family member requested the welfare check after being unable to contact a relative living at the address since late August. Officers entered the home at approximately 2:40 p.m. with assistance from the Fargo Fire Department and discovered the bodies.
Authorities delayed releasing the men’s names because of difficulties locating Tao’s next of kin, who live outside the United States, according to a police department news release.
The case is classified as an unattended death and is being investigated by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation while detectives await autopsy and toxicology test results.
