MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Moorhead Police Department on Wednesday officially closed its investigation into the death of Sahar Ramirez, confirming that a final toxicology report determined her manner of death was suicide.
Findings from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office showed Ramirez died from an overdose of an over-the-counter antihistamine medication. Police said the results align with all evidence gathered during the months-long probe and that no evidence contradicts the medical examiner’s ruling.
Ramirez was reported missing in late June before search teams located her body on June 30 near the banks of the Red River. Her death sparked widespread public concern, with family members and community advocates holding protests to challenge early police findings and questioning whether her death was tied to domestic violence involving her husband.
Investigators previously addressed a 2022 domestic violence video circulating online involving her husband, noting that digital and physical evidence placed him in Ottertail County during Ramirez’s final known movements on June 25.
“We know this conclusion will weigh heavily on many in our community,” Moorhead Police Chief Chris Helmick said in a statement. “Sahar’s loss has left a big impact on many, and our thoughts remain with her children and family, and everyone who has been grieving and searching for answers.”
Department officials stated that no further comments or interview requests will be accommodated moving forward.
