EDGELEY, N.D. (KFGO) — An Edgeley, North Dakota business owner is charged with attempted murder after police say he fired several shots towards another man.
Court documents say the incident involving Kelly Steffes happened in late March at Steffes Excavation and Trucking in Edgley.
The victim had stopped to drop off the rest of his ex-girlfriend’s belongings when he says Steffes fired a shot in the air and hit him in the face with the barrel of the gun. Steffes then chased the victim in his vehicle and fired four to nine shots at the victim’s vehicle with a passenger inside. One round hit the back window. Investigators later found a bullet fragment in the exhaust pipe.
During a search of Steffes’s business, police found cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
In addition to attempted murder and drug charges, Steffes faces three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of assault.
He has pleaded not guilty to counts. Steffes is scheduled to be in court June 4.
LaMoure County Sheriff’s Office, the Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force and North Dakota BCI investigated the case.
