FARGO (KFGO) – As the school year begins, Fargo Police Chief Travis Stefonowicz is asking parents to review safety rules for electric bicycles, scooters and motorcycles with their children.
Stefonowicz says that some e-bikes and scooters are advancing too fast for state law and city ordinances to keep up, and wants parents to review what they are buying before letting their kids on the road. He says parents should make sure that they know the rules for e-bikes and scooters.
Stefonowicz says Fargo Police have recently seen groups of young riders that are not following traffic laws, and adds recently Fargo Police found a large group of riders that were creating a hazard on the road, taking over lanes and cutting off drivers.
“An officer attempted to stop the group using emergency lights and sirens, but most of the riders did not stop and fled. Thankfully, no one was hurt in this situation. A short time later, an officer located some of these riders that fled, and charges were sent to juvenile court,” Stefonowicz said
The biggest concern, Stefonowicz says, is avoiding injuries or death caused by e-bikes and scooters.
