FARGO (KFGO) — A Fort Totten, North Dakota man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for two separate cases.
Kolby McKay, 34, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic assault in April. In March 2024, he held a knife to his girlfriends’ throat, and choked her until she almost passed out. A few weeks later, in April 2024, McKay killed Monte Ray during a fight.
McKay fled law enforcement after the killing, and Spirit Lake Tribal Council issued curfews until he was caught.
McKay was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Fargo Wednesday.
