WASHINGTON (KFGO) — A bipartisan bill that would make daylight savings time permanent has advanced in the US house and is expected to be voted on this week.
The Sunshine Protection Act has President Trump’s support, and was co-sponsored by 34 house Republicans and Democrats. It would end the practice of changing clocks twice a year. If the bill becomes law, the sun wouldn’t rise until almost 10 a.m. in western North Dakota.
Fargo’s latest sunrise in mid-December would be 9:12a.m. Bismarck’s would be 9:29 a.m.
Trump has previously called daylight savings time “inconvenient,” and “very costly to our nation. House Democrats raised concerns this week about darker winter mornings. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida raised concerns about child safety, while Rep. Nanette Barragán of California pointed to medical research that a change could be harmful to sleep patterns.
