(KNFL/KFGO) – It would be Game 2 of a 3-game series between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Kansas City Monarchs, as Fargo-Moorhead would look to even the series at a game a piece this afternoon. This would be the 5th game of a 9 game road-trip for the RedHawks. Dakota Chalmers would start for Kansas City, and Wyatt Cheney would be on the mound for Fargo-Moorhead.
In the top of the 1st, the RedHawks would have the bases loaded with 1 out, and Colby Wilkerson would be up to bat. Wilkerson would reach 1st base thanks to an error at 3rd base, allowing Jesus Lujano to score from 3rd base. That moved Jose Sermo from 1st to 2nd, and Juan Fernandez from 2nd to 3rd base. With the RedHawks leading 1-0, Jairus Richards would drive in Juan Fernandez on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Kansas City would respond quick on a solo home run by Marcus Smith to make to 2-1, and then a wild pitch later in the inning that scored a run to tie it at 2.
No one would score until the bottom of the 8th. Trevor Boone for Kansas City would reach on an error on 3rd baseman Juan Fernandez. Then, Boone would advance on a passed ball by Mason Pelio. Finally, Brady Lindsley would dump an RBI single into right field to give the Monarchs a 3-2 lead.
Steffon Moore, who had a scoreless 8th inning in relief, went 1-2-3 through the RedHawks batting order in the top of the 9th, solidifying a 3-2 win for Kansas City, as well as the series win over Fargo-Moorhead.
Despite the loss for Fargo-Moorhead, Wyatt Cheney would be absolutely stellar for the RedHawks. He went 6 innings, throwing 109 pitches, and struck out 10 batters. Dakota Chalmers would go 5 1/3 innings, throwing 102 pitches, and striking out 7 for Kansas City. Both pitchers would be given no decisions, as Steffon Moore would get the win, going 2 scoreless inning, while striking out 4. Mason Pelio of Fargo-Moorhead would be given the loss.
