Moo Deng, the beloved pygmy baby hippo at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, marked her first birthday on Thursday. The zoo pulled out all the stops with a four-day celebration for the viral social media sensation, including a 44-pound cake made of fruits and vegetables, as well as thousands of visitors. TODAY correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer, who was on the scene, described the birthday girl as “lumbering around, happy, moist and unbothered” throughout the day. In addition to her birthday bash, Moo Deng spent the day taking naps, munching on watermelon, and even receiving a hose-down shower, during which she playfully chewed on her caretaker’s knees. (Upi)
