Relatives of approximately 160 individuals had entrusted their loved ones’ ashes for a space journey, only to face disappointment. The “Mission Possible” Nyx capsule, part of a space mission by The Exploration Company, was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on June 23. Despite a successful re-entry into the atmosphere the following day, the capsule experienced a crash landing in the Pacific Ocean. The mishap occurred as the parachutes meant for landing failed to deploy, causing the capsule to plunge into the ocean. The Nyx capsule had been tasked with transporting the remains of individuals sent through Celestis Memorial Spaceflights. (Newser)
