GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO KNOX) – The Grand Forks Air Force Base is distancing itself from interaction with the city of Grand Forks they await a ruling by the Committee on Foreign Investment over the proposed Fufeng project.
A statement issued by the base on Thursday to local leaders says as a result of recent developments related to the corn milling plant, the base will refrain from official engagements with city administration in order to avoid conflicts of interest during the federal review process.
The decision will result in the cancellation of collaborative community investment meetings, Col. Tim Curry’s Air Combat Command trip, and will postpone the annual State of the Base address indefinitely.
The statement says the goal is to ensure the independence and integrity of the review process.
The Fufeng project has stirred controversy and raised national security concerns because of its financial ties to China and the close proximity to the air force base. The Committee’s findings are anticipated during the second half of November.
