WOLVERTON, Minn. (KFGO) – As many as 40 first responders, including firefighters from Breckenridge, Abercrombie, North Dakota, and the Wilkin County sheriff’s deputies rescued a man half-buried in a grain bin on a farm near Wolverton Thursday.
Breckenridge Fire Chief Tyler Sletterdahl says it is a very difficult and dangerous situation. He says rescuers used upside-down beverage crates to prevent them from being submerged once inside the bin. Grain panels and a rescue auger were used to safely extricate Tim Buth.
The Breckenridge Fire Department received the life-saving auger in a grant from the Minnesota Corn and Soybean Growers Association.
Sletterdahl says he saw “a lot of (high) 5’s, a lot of hugs and handshakes once Tim was out of that bin.”
