FARGO (KFGO) – There’s pointed criticism and a federal investigation into how law enforcement handled the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Fargo’s newly organized citizens Advisory and Oversight Board heard from police on how they respond to an active shooter.
Sgt. Tom Shaw trains the department’s officers for these types of incidents. “Our immediate need when we respond to a scene like that is to stop whatever the threat is as soon as possible.” He said whether there have been casualties or not, the officers have to neutralize the threat.
Shaw said the next step is to help victims by officers who are trained in “tactical combat care,” working in coordination with firefighters.
