HETTINGER, ND – A grass fire in southwestern North Dakota has burned 20,000 acres.
Firefighters responded to the fire in Adams County late Thursday afternoon. Several farms and ranches were evacuated due to smoke.
Nearly 20 fire departments from North and South Dakota battled the blaze in 30 to 40 mph winds. Two firefighters were hurt and treated in Hettinger. Firefighters had stopped about 80% of the blaze from spreading as of Friday afternoon.
No occupied buildings have been lost.
