MOORHEAD (KFGO) – A 34-year-old Moorhead man was arrested Thursday morning following an armed standoff that drew regional tactical officers and aerial drone surveillance to a residential neighborhood.
Berwar Abdullgafoor surrendered without incident outside a home in the 1600 block of 20th Street South shortly before tactical teams prepared to enter the property.
Officers initially arrived at the residence around 11:13 a.m. to conduct a follow-up investigation into a second-degree assault reported the previous day. When officers attempted to speak with Abdullgafoor, he barricaded himself inside the house and refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
Police soon learned that Abdullgafoor had access to several weapons inside the residence and was experiencing an apparent mental health crisis. To monitor the property safely while establishing a perimeter, the Moorhead Fire Department deployed an unmanned drone to provide overhead observation.
Given the elevated safety risk, investigators called in the Red River Regional SWAT Team to assist in executing a high-risk warrant. Before tactical operations commenced, Abdullgafoor exited the residence on his own and was taken into custody without further incident.
Abdullgafoor was transported to the Clay County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault, domestic assault and obstructing legal process.
Authorities emphasized that no injuries occurred and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
