ROCHESTER, Minn. (KFGO) – Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announces the National Autism Missing Person Initiative in Rochester, Minnesota.
“When an autistic child or an adult goes missing, every minute matters. Approximately half of autistic individuals wander. Wandering can happen with sensory overloads with anxiety or when someone seeks some kind of new adventure,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said autistic children are 100 times more likely to drown than those who are neurotypical.
The partnership between HHS, the Department of Justice and FEMA will develop a national framework for an autism specific alert.
