FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo City Commission voted 3-2 to dissolve the Human Rights Commission Monday night.
The vote was recommended by Commissioner John Strand. He says it’s time to acknowledge that the Human Rights Commission was not working.
“And I’m what some people would call a left-leaning liberal activist, flaming some would say,” Strand said, “When you’re an activist and you’re fighting for human rights, you need to go into a space where it’s received well and it’s embraced, and it’s acknowledged, and you breathe life into the wishes of the people,”.
Human Rights Commission Chair Sekou Sirleaf requested the vote was delayed until the next commission meeting, when Mayor-Elect Josh Boschee is seated.
Outgoing Commissioners Denise Kolpack and Dave Piepkorn voted against the motion.
