BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – Former Fargo Parks executive director Dave Leker is being named the executive director of Bismarck Parks and Recreation.
The Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners made the announcement Tuesday.
Leker will replace Kevin Klipfel who is retiring.
The Fargo Park Board in 2023 voted 3-2 to end Leker’s contract. Leker had worked for Fargo Parks for 22 years, about four of those as executive director.
One board member at the time said Leker was dedicated and likable, but in the wrong position. The two board members who voted to keep Leker said he had some deficiencies, but was making progress.
Last year, Leker filed a federal lawsuit against Fargo Parks, claiming board members created a hostile work environment and discriminated against him because of his age. Leker was 59 when his contract was terminated. The federal lawsuit has yet to be resolved.
Leker takes over as executive director for Bismarck Parks and Recreation June 18.
