ST. PAUL (KFGO/Learfield) – The Office of Inspector General bill has taken a major step in creating an independent watchdog for fraud in Minnesota. The bill is heading to the House floor. The author, Representative Matt Norris of Blaine is cautiously optimistic the bill will soon be law.
“There’s a saying around here that it’s never done until the governor’s signature is on it. So you never want to get too excited to early but I do expect this will have bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate and it will be on the way to the governor’s desk.” Norris said.
The Senate will have to pass the bill again due to changes made to the original bill in the House.
“A dollar spent now saves us a lot of money down the road so it makes sense to invest in program integrity and things that will prevent fraud and to make sure that our taxpayer dollars here in Minnesota are going to the purposes that we intend them to.” Norris said.
