Birch Bay, Washington may have set a new Guinness World Record Thursday after 4,917 people officially entered frigid water during a polar bear dip attempt. Several community groups organized the event to break the existing record, previously held by Norway with 3,134 participants on December 13th, surpassing the earlier mark of 2,461. Guinness World Record adjudicator Brittany Dunn said the organization is still reviewing numbers due to counting issues. Participants wore only swimsuits and shoes, spending at least six minutes in water to qualify for the record attempt. (Story URL)
