Wham!’s 1984 holiday classic, “Last Christmas,” has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 for the very first time, rising three spots to top the chart on the strength of 95.3 million streams and 5,000 sales worldwide. This marks the song’s most successful season yet, making it only the second holiday hit to top the chart since its 2020 inception, following Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which remains at No. 2 after spending a record 19 total weeks at No. 1 over the past five years. Andrew Ridgeley, one-half of the beloved British duo alongside the late George Michael, is honored by “the special place the song occupies in so many hearts,” while thanking “everyone who has embraced the song as a little piece of their own merry Christmas.” “Last Christmas” also recently hit a peak of No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and currently sits at No. 3 on this week’s chart.
