A raccoon discovered intoxicated in an Ashland ABC store bathroom on November 29th has broken into businesses multiple times, animal control says. “Supposedly this is like the third break-in he’s had,” animal protection officer Samantha Martin told a local podcast. The raccoon also entered a karate studio and DMV office, where he “ate some of their snacks one time,” Martin said. Officers found shattered liquor bottles throughout the store and the raccoon unconscious by the toilet. “He locked himself in the bathroom, so he knew what he was doing, he was protecting himself for the morning,” Martin explained. The animal likely accessed the store by falling through the ceiling. Officials won’t relocate the raccoon “because that’s a death sentence for raccoons.” The incident helped raise over $200,000 for Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter, the largest donation amount in 20 years.
