Tallahassee police arrested 54-year-old William Clark for allegedly throwing scalding cooking grease on roommate Carl Sanders during an October 20 fight over house guests. Sanders recorded video as Clark emerged from the kitchen carrying hot grease leftover from frying ribs. “Either you leave or I’m gonna make you leave,” Clark said before hurling the grease, which struck Sanders’ face, neck and arm, causing severe burns. Emergency crews airlifted Sanders to UF Shands Hospital’s ICU burn unit. Clark gave conflicting explanations to police, first citing Sanders’ refusal to leave, then claiming Sanders “lunged” threateningly. The affidavit states Clark admitted he “held the pan of hot grease to use it as a weapon” and “refilled the grease in case he had to use it again.” Clark faces aggravated battery charges, was released on $10,000 bond with GPS monitoring, and pleaded not guilty.
