CLAY COUNTY, Minn. (KFGO) – A 98-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash north of Sabin on Thursday afternoon, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Doris Olson was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Sherill Johnson when the collision occurred around 3 p.m. at the intersection of 60th Avenue South and 70th Street South.
Sheriff Mark Empting said preliminary investigations indicate Johnson stopped at a stop sign while traveling eastbound on 60th Avenue. Johnson mistakenly believed the intersection was a four-way stop and proceeded into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Bruce Anderson.
Anderson’s vehicle struck the front driver’s side of Johnson’s car. Deputies were initially dispatched to the scene after receiving an automated crash notification from OnStar.
Olson was airlifted to Sanford Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. A backseat passenger in Johnson’s car, 78-year-old Mary Erickson, was transported by ambulance with minor injuries. Anderson was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol.
