FARGO (KFGO) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the man responsible for a serious injury crash on University Drive in Fargo Sunday night has died. Elijah Baumann, 24, of Moorhead died Wednesday from injuries suffered in the crash.
The Highway Patrol says Baumann was under the influence of alcohol while going the wrong way on University Drive at high speeds near 15th Ave when he collided with a motorcycle driven by Isaac Putney, 19.
Putney has serious injuries because of the crash. A go-fund-me page says he lost his left leg below the knee, shattered his arm and is in critical condition. A link to that page can be found here.
Two passengers in Baumann’s car were injured, Keniel Mercado, 23, and Ty Smith, 21. Both men are from Fargo.
Before his death, troopers wanted to charge Baumann with DUI, reckless endangerment and criminal vehicular injury. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office had recommended additional charges of fleeing, driving under suspension and reckless endangerment.
