Pelican Rapids man accused of stealing $1,200 worth of freeze-dried food

PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. (KFGO-KBRF) – A Pelican Rapids man has been charged for stealing around $1,200 worth of freeze-dried food.

Daniel Charles Weckwerth, 38,  made his first court appearance Wednesday morning for charges of 2^nd and 3^rd degree burglary and felony theft. Prosecutors say that Weckwerth broke into his neighbor’s camper and, over the course of a few days, took 12 large cans of freeze-dried food. The neighbor estimated the cans are worth around $1,200 in total.

Court documents say footage from the neighbor’s game camera on September 3 shows Weckwerth entering the camper and taking a large can of freeze-dried eggs.

A search warrant was issued for the camper Weckwerth was staying in and Otter Tail County deputies found a can of Augason Farms freeze-dried eggs and two used bags of Ready Hour freeze dried food that appeared to be taken from the large 120 serving bucket from the neighbor’s camper.

Weckwerth was taken into custody on September 4.
