In the preview, Ali G points to several things that have gone wrong in the world during his absence, with Sheeran unexpectedly included in the punchline.
Following the trailer’s release, Sheeran reacted on social media with amusement rather than offense. The singer said his younger self would have been thrilled to know that Ali G would one day mention him in a movie, adding a playful nod to the character’s familiar catchphrase.
The film brings Baron Cohen back to the role of Ali G after roughly two decades. The character first became widely known through television and the 2002 comedy Ali G Indahouse.
The new project follows Ali G as he returns to public life and tries to navigate a very different cultural landscape. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on October 23, 2026.
