(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks were going for a series win Saturday evening against the Lincoln Saltdogs. Fargo-Moorhead’s Jose Sermo entered the game one home run shy of tying the franchise’s single-season home run record. Parker Harm would start on the mound for Fargo-Moorhead, opposed by Lincoln’s Graham Edwards.
After the RedHawks got on the board from a fielder’s choice by Tucipita Marcano in the top of the first, Matt Kroon would crush a three-run home run to left field to make it a 4-0 lead in the opening inning.
Lincoln would respond on an RBI single by Jairo Pomares, a fielder’s choice by Connor Bagnieski, and a Jake Hjelle RBI single in the bottom of the first.
In the top of the second, Tripp Clark would drive in two on an RBI double to make it 6-2. Then, history would be made. Jose Sermo, the very next batter, crushed a two-run home run to right field that went out of Haymarket Park. It would be his 29th of the season, which tied the single-season home run record for a RedHawks player. That record has been held by Jesse Hoorelbeke.
The RedHawks would have an 8-2 lead until the top of the fourth, where Tucipita Marcano would drive in his second RBI of the night on an RBI single, and then Matt Kroon drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. That gave Fargo-Moorhead a 10-3 lead.
The RedHawks made in an 11-3 lead on a sacrifice fly by Brian Fuentes in the top of the seventh. Edinson Batista had come into the game in relief in the bottom of the third inning for Parker Harm, and he would be stellar for the Hawks, going five shutout innings, while striking out six.
Justin Lopez would come into the game in relief for Fargo-Moorhead in the bottom of the eighth. The Saltdogs would score three in that inning on an RBI triple by Paul Myro IV, a passed ball that scored Myro IV from third base, and a Jairo Pomares RBI single.
Jesus Lujano would tack on one more run for the RedHawks on an RBI single in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Jake Hjelle would hit a solo home run to left field. Despite that, Fargo-Moorhead would win 12-7, securing a series victory.
Edinson Batista would be the winning pitcher for Fargo-Moorhead, while Graham Edwards would be the losing pitcher for Lincoln after going six innings, while giving up 10 runs with eight of them earned, and striking out seven.
Fargo-Moorhead has scored a total of 25 runs in this series. They also clinch a winning-record on this road trip.
The RedHawks will go for the sweep of Lincoln Sunday afternoon. 12:45 PM is the pregame show on 740 The FAN KNFL AM Fargo/107.3 FM, 740thefan.com, and the 740 The FAN mobile app.
