MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) – Good News Auto Sales Owner Republican Andrew Rockhold is running for Minnesota House District 4A which covers all of Moorhead south of 15th Avenue North.
He wants to eliminate property taxes and explained to KFGO’s Tyler Axness how he could replace that money in the state budget.
“They found enough fraud in Minnesota to completely and totally cover property taxes,” Rockhold said.
“The concern I have about that is we’ve discovered the fraud, but I don’t think we’ve collected that money back,” Axness said.
“We haven’t gotten the money back, but we know that the money is there year-after-year because they’re allocating it toward the fraud,” Rockhold said.
Rockhold added a one percent sales tax on homes could make up for the money taken away from eliminating property taxes.
Rockhold believes problems with high childcare costs begins with the nuclear family.
“I’m the type that believes it’s the man’s responsibility to get out there and work bust his butt to provide for his wife and kids and it’s the wife’s responsibility to raise those kids. Not to say women can’t work,” Rockhold explained. “It’s nearly impossible in this economy to be able to have extra expenses to go toward anything. Even childcare. That problem is something that I feel like starts before that.”
Rockhold said there should be state programs to help single parents pay for childcare.
The DFL nominee for the seat is psychiatric nurse practitioner Erika Yoney.
