The Chicks are revisiting one of the most important albums in their catalog as Taking the Long Way turns 20. In an anniversary announcement on Aug. 10, the trio confirmed an expanded edition of the 2006 album featuring five bonus tracks, including previously unreleased material.
The new edition is set for release on Oct. 3 and will be available digitally and as a three-LP set. As part of the announcement, Thin Line and Live Wire will also become available for streaming for the first time. Demo versions of songs from the original album are among the additional recordings.
Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer are also celebrating the milestone onstage. Their Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour begins Sept. 30 in Detroit, with additional dates recently added in Philadelphia, Boston and Los Angeles.
Originally released in 2006, Taking the Long Way became a major chapter in the group’s career. The album later earned five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, while Not Ready to Make Nice won both Record and Song of the Year.
