Sioux Falls, SD (By Sioux Falls Canaries) – The Sioux Falls Canaries never trailed Wednesday night, using a pair of four-run innings to top Fargo-Moorhead 9-8.
The Birds wasted no time, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Grady Mee singled and scored on a two-run homerun from Jabari Henry. Josh Rehwaldt followed with a single and Michael Curialle doubled; both later scored on a two-run single from Chase Engelhard.
The RedHawks, though, rallied and tied the game in the top of the second with a four-run frame of their own.
Curialle tripled with one out in the third inning and scored on a sacrifice groundout from Anthony Hall to put Sioux Falls in front for good.
The Canaries struck for four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to build their largest lead. Trevor Achenbach belted a three-run homer before Henry crossed home plate on a perfectly-executed double steal.
The 9-4 advantage held until the eighth inning when Fargo-Moorhead sent all nine batters to the plate and scored four times to get within a run. With runners at the corners and two outs, Nicholai Arbach entered the game and induced a groundout to escape the jam with the lead preserved.
The Canaries were held scoreless in the bottom half and led 9-8 going into the ninth. Charlie Hasty worked around a leadoff walk and Rehwaldt snagged a hard-hit line drive to first base to end the game, clinching the three-game divisional series. The save marked the 70th in Hasty’s career, tying former Canary Kris Regas for the second-most in league history.
Henry and Curialle each finished with two hits while Garrett Martin tossed five strong innings to earn the win. Ryan Richardson, three months removed from a colon cancer diagnosis, took the hill for the first time in 2026.
The Canaries (38-32) remain a half-game out of second place in the West Division and three back of first as they look to complete the series sweep Thursday at 6:35pm.
