(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks were looking to bounce back after a 5-3 loss Tuesday night to the Lincoln Saltdogs, as well as snap a three-game losing streak. Entering Wednesday night, Fargo-Moorhead sat in 3rd place in the West Division, four games back of the 1st place Kansas City Monarchs.
The RedHawks would have Eric Chalus on the mound, and in the top of the 1st, Lincoln would rattle off two straight hits on the first two pitches of the game. With runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs, Jairo Pomares would ground into a double play that drove in the game’s first run. No RBI was credited
Lincoln would plate another run in the top of the 2nd, as Jacob Morrow hit an RBI triple to make it 2-0 Saltdogs.
Lincoln would send former Oregon Duck, Jacob Hughes to the mound, and he would strike out seven RedHawks batters through four scoreless innings. Fargo-Moorhead would break through in the bottom of the 5th. Trailing 2-0, the RedHawks would get an RBI infield single by Juan Fernandez, and then an RBI single to left field by Jose Sermo to tie it at 2. Fargo-Moorhead would take the lead on an error by 3rd baseman Calyn Halverson that allowed Juan Fernandez to score from 2nd base. Tripp Clark would then drive in a run on an RBI double to give the RedHawks a 4-2 lead. He almost drove in two runs but Matt Kroon was tagged out on a relay from left field.
Matt Kroon would hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th to extend the Fargo-Moorhead lead to 5-2.
In the top of the 8th, with Mason Pelio pitching in relief, Nick Shumpert hit a fly ball to left field, and it was misplayed by left fielder Jairus Richards. That turned into an RBI double for Shumpert which made it 5-3. Jairo Pomares would hit a fly ball to left field as well, and it was misplayed by Richards again in left. Shumpert would score on the error in left field, and that made it a one-run game. With Pomares at 2nd base, Calyn Halverson would dump an RBI base hit into center field to tie it at 5. Jon Beymer would replace Mason Pelio in relief, and Beymer would hit a batter to load the bases. But, he would strike out Paul Myro IV to leave them loaded.
Fargo-Moorhead would look to respond in the bottom of the 8th. With Jairus Richards at 2nd base, Jesus Lujano would give the RedHawks a 6-5 lead on an RBI double.
Tyler Jeans would be on for the save in the top of the 9th for Fargo-Moorhead. The Saltdogs would have a runner on 2nd base, and an error by 3rd basemen Matt Kroon would bring home the game-tying run.
The game would be tied in the bottom of the 9th, and with a runner on for Fargo-Moorhead, Tripp Clark would smash his 2nd RBI double of the night down the left field line. This one drove in the winning run, as the RedHawks walk off the Saltdogs 7-6.
