Two North Dakota men file lawsuit alleging hospital switched them at birth

FARGO (KFGO-KVRR) – “It was eye-opening, exciting at first because I finally started seeing a face that looked like mine. And I was starting to finally piece stuff together and get answers,” said Jeremy Morrison.

After numerous DNA tests, Morrison was told just two years ago that his family was not his biological family. And that he was switched at birth with another man, Kyle Bylin.

“Sometimes I feel blessed that I have extra parents while other people are losing their parents in this day and age. And then I also think about the life that might have been. But then I also have to go back and think about, if I would’ve done that then I probably wouldn’t have be where I am today and I wouldn’t have the children that I have and everything else,” said Morrison.

Both men filed a lawsuit against the hospital, Unity Medical Center in Grafton, North Dakota. The lawsuit alleges emotional distress caused by negligence and medical malpractice. However, in a statement from the hospital, they say the delivery staff employed at the time are no longer present, and the records no longer exist. They have also denied responsibility for the incident, asserting an internal review yielded no evidence that showed their staff was at fault.

“They’re trying to get away with it. Saying, we don’t have, they don’t have the records. Well, we have the records. Kyle still has his ID tag that has my biological name on there, so I don’t know how a hospital can say that…I think they’re trying to pawn it off and say that the moms swapped them, which is absolutely ridiculous,” said Morrison.

While the news was eye-opening for Morrison, he said he is doing his best moving forward.
