(KNFL/KFGO) – It would be the third Woodchippers night of the season, as the Fargo Woodchippers were looking for four-game series sweep of the Gary SouthShore RailCats Wednesday night after sweeping the doubleheader Tuesday. Eric Chalus would get the start for Fargo.
After a leadoff triple by Korey Howell in the top of the 1st, Elvis Peralta would bring him home on a sacrifice fly give Gary a 1-0 lead. Fargo would tie it on a sacrifice fly of their own by Jose Sermo in the bottom of the 3rd.
The 1-1 tie would be broken in the top of the 4th, as Nick Podkul drove in a run on an RBI double to make it 2-1 RailCats. Tripp Clark in his first game back from injury would tie the game at 2 in the bottom of the 4th on a sacrifice fly.
Juan Fernandez would hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the 5th for Fargo, and then Dillon Thomas would drive him in on an RBI single to give the Woodchippers their first lead of the game at 3-2.
Eric Chalus was on a roll throughout this game, as after giving up the RBI knock by Nick Podkul, he would keep Gary off the scoreboard. Chalus would be taken out in the top of the 8th after throwing 7 2/3 innings, while giving up four hits on two earned runs. In the bottom of the 8th, Jesus Lujano launched an RBI double to center field to give Fargo a 4-2 lead.
Tyler Jeans would be on for the save in the top of the 9th for the Woodchippers. Gary would have two runners on with nobody out, and then Marc Flores would cut the deficit in half on an RBI double to pull the RailCats to within 4-3. Jeans would then walk Nick Podkul to load the bases. Mason Pelio then entered the game, retired the side, and stranded the bases loaded in the 9th as Fargo-Moorhead sweeps Gary SouthShore in a 4-3 win the series finale.
Eric Chalus got the win as he is now 5-1 on the season. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are now 3-0 when they are represented as the Woodchippers, and are tied for 2nd place in the West Division with Sioux Falls at 31-27, sitting 4 1/2 games back of 1st place Kansas City.
