(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks and Gary Southshore RailCats played a double header on Tuesday evening. In game one, it was the RedHawls who would score first. In the bottom of the first inning, Jose Sermo would hit a base hit to center field with Dillon Thomas on first. Sermo would over run first base and end up in a run down allowing Thomas to score and Sermo to reach second base as well.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Gary would would take thew lead with a two run single by Nick Podkul. Later in the inning, Kevin Watson Jr. would hit a RBI ground rule double to make it 3-1 RailCats.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Aidan Byrne would bunt his way on base. Jesus Lujano would crush the next pitch for a two run homerun to tie the game 3-3.
It would remain 3-3 until the 5th inning when RailCat’s Nick Podkul would strike again with a RBI single to give Gary a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Jose Sermo would hit a long double and eventually score on a RBI single by Matt Kroon to tie it 4-4.
In the bottom of the 6th inning with two outs, Aidan Byrne, Jesus Lujano, and Juan Fernandez would all single to load the bases. Dillon Thomas would hit a two run single to make it 6-4. Jose Sermo would follow with a RBI double to make it 7-4 RedHawks. The RedHawks would bring Tyler Jeans in to close it down with a scoreless 7th to earn his 12th save of the season.
In Game 2 of the double header Korry Howell of the RailCats would walk and then steal second and third base. He would score on a Elvis Peralta sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Gary.
The RedHawks would load the bases in the bottom of the 1st inning when Jairus Richards was hit by an 0-2 pitch to tie the game 1-1.
In the 2nd inning Gary would have runners on first and third when Cooper Edwards dropped a safety squeeze to make it 2-1. Korry Howell and Colin Summerhill would follow with RBIs to make it 4-1. Then Marc Flores would hit a two run double to put the RedHawks behind 6-2.
The RedHawks would start to come back in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With runners on first and third, Matt Kroon hit a RBI single to make it 6-2. RailCats starting pitcher Hayden Bailey would throw a wild pitch to Jose Sermo that allowed Jesus Lujano to score. Dillon Thomas would later hit a forced out RBI to make it 6-4 after two innings.
Kevin Watson Jr would hit a double in the 3rd inning and score when Cole Yearsley reached on an error by RedHawks second baseman Andy Nelson to make it 7-4. Korry Howell would get an RBI on a fielder’s choice down the 3rd base line to make it 8-4 Gary.
The RedHawks would continue to score in the bottom of the 3rd. Jairus Richards would lead off the inning off with a walk and advance to second on a wild pitch. Andy Nelson would slash a triple to plate Richards. Aidan Byrne would follow with a double to score Nelson and the RedHawks trailed by two runs 8-6 after three innings.
In the bottom of the 4th inning the RedHawks had the bases loaded and two outs when Carlos Amaya hit what looked like a routine grounder to third base. Railroader’s third baseman Olivier Basabe made a throwing error to third that allowed Jairus Richards, Brian Fuentes, and José Sermo to score as the RedHawks took a 9-8 lead.
The RailCats would tie the game at 9-9 when Elvis Peralta hit a ground rule double to score Korry Howell from second base in the top of the 6th.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Carlos Amaya would hit a sacrifice fly to score Brian Fuentes from third to give the RedHawks a 10-9 lead. Parker Harm who entered the game in the 6th inning, would pitch a scoreless 7th and get the Win.
