(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks and Chicago Dogs would face each other for the first time this season on Friday night. Chicago starter Andres Diaz would last only two-thirds of an inning. After two outs, the RedHawks put up 7 consecutive hits. Jose Sermo, Jairus Richards, Jesus Lujano, Andy Nelson, and Aidan Byrne would each get an RBI in the first inning. Another run was scored on a balk by Andres Diaz making it 6-0 RedHawks.
With two outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, the RedHawks would score nine more runs. Matt Kroon would get a RBI single to make it 7-0. Aidan Byrne would be walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-0 RedHawks. Jesus Lujano would clear the bases with a double to make it 11-0. Juan Fernandez would bring Lujano in on a single to make it 12-0. Then with Dillon Thomas and Juan Fernandez on, Jose Sermo would crush a three run homerun to make it 15-0 RedHawks after 2 innings.
The Chicago Dogs would eventually get on the board when Tyreque Reed hit a fielder’s choice with runners on second and third to make it 15-1.
In the bottom of the 4th inning the RedHawks would load the bases again. Chicago would bring in their fifth pitcher (Jose Acuna) of the game to face Jairus Richards who would hit a two run double. Matt Kroon would follow with a RBI single to make it 18-1 and a wild pitch would score Jairus Richards to make it 19-1.
The Dogs would put some offense up in the top of the 6th inning with RBI singles by Zach Stokes and Ethan Wilder to make it 19-3. Later in the inning, CJ Cepicky would hit a three run bases clearing triple to make it 19-6.
It would remain 19-6 until the top of the 8th inning when the Chicago Dogs would add an additional five runs. Chance Sisco and Jacob Maiben each hit two run singles and Ethan Wilder hit a solo homerun to make it 19-11.
The RedHawks would score one more run in the 8th off a Jairus Richards RBI single to make it 20-11. Parker Harm would pitch the last 1.2 innings to shut it down and give the RedHawks the 20-11 win.
