(KNFL/KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were searching for the series sweep of the Lincoln Saltdogs Wednesday night to wrap up a six-game road trip. The RedHawks would be tied for 2nd in the West Division with Sioux Falls at 20-21.
Facing RedHawks starter Patrick Wicklander, the Saltdogs would put runners on 1st and 2nd base in the bottom of the 2nd. Jacob Morrow would then drive an RBI single into center field to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, Nick Shumpert would smash a solo home run to left field to make it a 2-0 Saltdogs lead.
Fargo-Moorhead would respond in the top of the 5th, as Dillon Thomas nearly tied the game, as he hit a booming RBI double to left field to get the RedHawks on the board. The next batter would be Jose Sermo, and he crushed a 2-run shot to dead center field to give the RedHawks a 3-2 advantage.
Nick Shumpert tied the game for Lincoln in the bottom of the 5th on his second solo home run of the game to make it 3-3. Jake Hjelle would give the Saltdogs the lead later in the inning on an RBI double. He would end up at 3rd base after Connor Bagnieski got thrown out at home.
Lincoln would lead 4-3 going into the bottom of the 6th, where Cam Phelts drove in a run on an RBI single, and it would end up being a 5-3 victory for the Saltdogs.
Fargo-Moorhead stranded 10 runners on base in the game. They went 3-3 on the six-game road trip against Winnipeg and Lincoln. The RedHawks are now in a three-way tie for 2nd place in the West Division with the Sioux Falls Canaries, and the Sioux City Explorers . All three teams now have a record of 20-22.
