FARGO (KFGO) – North Dakota’s Special Olympics athletes got a hero’s sendoff this morning as they left Fargo for the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis. Fargo Police officers led the team’s bus with an escort through the city, while North Dakota State University students, coaches, and athletes lined the route, waving signs and cheering as the bus passed by.
“It’s amazing” says Special Olympics athlete Brad Goss, “Thanks to the PD, thanks for all they do and their service, it means a lot, all these people mean a lot.”
Goss will be playing basketball in the USA Games, and has been involved with North Dakota Special Olympics for 22 years.
Youth leader Estin Martin says leaders and others try to spread inclusion as much as they can into their communities.
“It’s very important to them. Everyone works so hard to get here, and being able to see all the work pay off. Having everyone send them off is really awesome.”
Martin will be leading youth athletes from ages 2-7 at the USA Games.
North Dakota has 44 athletes participating in the USA Games.
The Special Olympics will take place in 16 venues across the Twin Cities from June 20th through the 26th
