ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – The bonding bill passed by the Minnesota Legislature contains $10-million for flood control projects in Moorhead, Clay and Wilkin Counties.
The money will go to the Moorhead-Clay County Joint Powers Authority for stormwater lift station improvements in Moorhead and other mitigation projects in the two counties.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it comes after $100-million from the federal government came in ahead of scheduled. It authorized a 50-50 match for any money from the legislature and opens up $20-million for the Minnesota projects.
Metro Flood Diversion Authority Executive Director Jason Benson says he sincerely thanks Democratic Sen. Rob Kupec and Rep. Heather Keeler of Moorhead and Rep. Jim Joy of Hawley for their work in securing the funding as part of the bonding bill.
The work is expected to begin this year.
