PARK RAPIDS, Minn. (KFGO/KVRR) — Several people are displaced and a dog is dead after a house fire in rural Park Rapids on Saturday.
Park Rapids Fire Department responded to the house along County 6 and found the attached garage on fire. They could hear dogs barking inside. Two of the dogs were rescued while firefighters knocked down the fire in the garage. The fire spread into the house and attic.
Crews found a third dog and treated it with oxygen. A fourth dog was found dead.
The house is a total loss.
During the investigation, firefighters found an extension cord being used for a heat lamp on a cardboard box of chicks.
The official cause is still under investigation.
The people displaced had housing lined up before firefighters cleared the scene.
