Dave Purchase, owner of On Toast sandwich shop in Gloucester, England, sang Christmas songs for 42 consecutive hours to break a Guinness World Record. Purchase, known as “Mr. Toasty,” closed his store inside Warehouse 4 to attempt the marathon singing record. The previous record stood at 40 hours, set by Confidence Survival Eyong in Nigeria in 2024. Purchase’s playlist featured 38 different Christmas songs, including classics like “Jingle Bells” and modern hits from Mariah Carey and Wham. He cycled through the songs repeatedly, completing 684 total performances during his 42-hour attempt. A dementia choir, children’s choir, and local residents joined Purchase at various points throughout his record-breaking effort. Purchase successfully surpassed the existing record by two hours.
