Jessica Bond Ferguson shot and killed one of the escaped Rhesus monkeys near her Heidelberg, Mississippi home Sunday morning after her 16-year-old son spotted it in their yard. “I did what any other mother would do to protect her children,” Ferguson told the AP. The mother of five, whose children range from ages 4 to 16, said she feared the animals carried diseases. The monkey was among several that escaped after a truck transporting them from Tulane University crashed on Interstate 59 on October 28. Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson confirmed two monkeys remain missing. Tulane University later clarified the primates were not infectious. (Story URL)
