Mattel has unveiled a new Barbie doll featuring type 1 diabetes, collaborating with Breakthrough T1D to ensure medical accuracy. The doll includes a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump, reflecting the reality of the over 300,000 American children and teens living with the lifelong condition. Barbie’s Senior VP, Krista Berger, states the goal is to “ensure more kids can see themselves in the stories they imagine and the dolls they love.” This Barbie is part of Mattel’s Fashionistas line, which emphasizes diversity, including dolls in wheelchairs, with canes, and with Down syndrome. The type 1 diabetes Barbie will be available for $10.99. (Newser)
