Woman Calls AAA for Flat TireโDuring a Police Standoff She Caused
If youโre going to lead police on a 130 mph chaseโฆ maybe donโt try to call AAA mid-standoff like itโs just a little roadside inconvenience.
But thatโs exactly what Annamae Cabalsa Martinez, 45, did after troopers finally stopped her car by spiking her tires on I-70 in Utah. Once her tire deflated and she was surrounded by armed officers, she didnโt surrender immediately. Nope. She called AAA.
Because apparently, โMy tires are flat because I was fleeing the cops at 130 mphโ is just another Tuesday for some people.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Martinez was first clocked at 120 mph and tried to outrun police for nearly 100 miles. Troopers finally managed to spike her front tire, forcing her to stop near Sigurd. But instead of getting out when commanded, she sat inside her car ignoring officersโuntil she got on the phone and dialed for roadside assistance.
AAA, realizing what was happening, transferred her callโฆ to the police. The police then, with a straight face, patched the call through to a trooper at the scene.
After a bizarre standoff and some tense negotiations (probably including โmaโam, your tires were spiked because weโre arresting youโ), officers finally talked her out of the car and took her into custody.
Sheโs now facing charges for reckless driving and failing to stop for police. No word on whether AAA is still considering her a โvalued member.โ
