Illinois Man Steals Ambulance, Crashes During Texas Police Chase
A 30-year-old Illinois man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing an ambulance and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase before crashing into a tree, according to the Milam County Sheriffโs Office.
Authorities say Grant Saline was staying at a Cameron, Texas motel when he called for an ambulance, claiming he was experiencing a mental health emergency. However, when paramedics arrived, Saline reportedly took control of the vehicle and fled the scene.
Deputies and Cameron police tracked the stolen ambulance to a rural area around 5 a.m. Monday. A brief off-road pursuit ensued before Saline lost control and crashed into a tree.
He was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. Saline was booked into the Milam County Jail and is facing several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, evading arrest in a vehicle, and criminal mischief.
Additionally, the Cameron Police Department has announced plans to file further charges for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unlawful restraint.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers assisted in the chase and arrest. Authorities have not released details on whether drugs, alcohol, or injuries played a role in the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
