Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Shaboozey are getting some precious metal for Christmas this year.
The Recording Industry Association of America, which certifies music Gold, Platinum and Diamond, has announced that Taylor received the highest certification level for 2024: Her album The Tortured Poets Department was certified six-times Platinum for sales of 6 million units.
Shaboozey had the highest-certified song: “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” was certified for sales of 5 million units. He also set the record for the fastest certification of a single. It went Gold, signifying 500,000 units sold, just 31 days after its release and then grew from there. The fastest certified album was Jason Derulo‘s NU KING, which went Gold the day of release.
Billie Eilish, though, had the most releases certified this year — 10. Her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT was certified Platinum and nine songs from the album were certified: “Birds of a Feather” went four-times Platinum; “Lunch,” “Chihiro” and “Wildflower” went Platinum; and “Skinny,” “Blue,” “The Greatest,” “L’Amour de ma Vie” and “The Diner” were all certified Gold.
Some of the artists who earned their very first RIAA certifications this year included Dasha for “Austin”; Mark Ambor for “Belong Together”; and Tommy Richman for “Million Dollar Baby,” “Devil Is a Lie” and “Upset.”
