Sleeping on the Job: Acupuncturist Fined for Napping Mid-Session
In Iowa, a state-certified, Dave Wang, found himself in hot water for taking a nap during a patient’s session.
The unnamed patient became concerned when Wang inserted acupuncture needles and then left the premises to catch some Z’s at home. After waiting for an hour and a half with no sign of Wang’s return, the patient took matters into his own hands, removing some of the needles and contacting the sheriff’s office for assistance.
The State Board of Medicine didn’t take this snooze session lightly, charging Wang with professional incompetence. However, Wang managed to avoid a more severe penalty, receiving just a warning along with a $500 fine for his nap time escapade.
Note to self: if your acupuncturist starts reading bedtime stories before placing needles, it’s time to roll off that table and get out of there!
