MOORHEAD – Veterinary clinics in Fargo-Moorhead are reporting an aggressive strain of kennel cough.
“Kennel cough is kind of a general term for upper respiratory disease in mainly dogs. It’s usually caused by a virus, sometimes bacteria, but there can be several causes,” Minnesota Board of Animal Health Vet, Dr. Erik Jopp said.
Jopp said kennel cough is highly contagious and could lead to the development of pneumonia and – in more severe cases – death.
If your dog is showing symptoms of kennel cough, Jopp recommends keeping them at home and away from other dogs for a few weeks.
