HASTINGS, Minn. – A dump truck driver will spend a year in prison for causing a 2019 crash in Rosemount that killed a couple from South St. Paul.
According to Dakota County prosecutors, 49-year-old Fred Fonji of Roseville will serve two 365-day sentences concurrently for the deaths of Colette and William Craig.
The State Patrol said Fonji’s dump truck was going at least 55 miles per hour when it struck a pickup and then rear-ended Craig’s vehicle, pushing it into a semi-truck where it split in half.
Witnesses told police they didn’t see brake lights from Fonji’s truck before the crash.
