LAST TIME OUT
The University of North Dakota defeated Detroit Mercy, 70-60. The Fighting Hawks took the initial lead and were able to maintain it until the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Titans tied the game 51-51 during the first 47 seconds. Melissa Leet helped keep the Fighting Hawks in the lead, but a three from the Titans pushed them to take their first lead of the afternoon. UND was able to regain the lead with a three from Maggie Manson, which led to an 8-0 run for the Hawks. This pushed them towards their victory against the Titans. Leet earned a double-double netting 16 points and securing ten rebounds, while recording six blocks and six assists. Olivia Lane narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Manson scored 16 points this game, which has placed her in the double-digits for seven of the eleven games this season. Claire Orth was the fourth player to score double digits with 13 points, five assists, and three steals. Kacie Borowicz rounded out the starting five with four points, five assists, and three steals. The Fighting Hawks finished shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from the three and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. The Titans hit their shots at 36.8 percent from the floor, 46.7 percent from the three and 68.8 percent from the line.

The University of North Dakota leads North Dakota State in the series, 47-39. The last time that the two teams played each other was on Jan. 16, 2020. The Fighting Hawks fell 68-71 to the Bison in overtime at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
MAGGIE’S TRIPLES
Maggie Manson helped the Fighting Hawks take the lead against the Titans when they came back in the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon. She scored a three right after Detroit Mercy took their first and last lead of the game. Manson ended the evening with 16 points. That marked the seventh game this season where she ended the night with double digits.
LEET IN THE LANE
Melissa Leet led the Fighting Hawks on offense and defense against Detroit Mercy. She ended the evening with a double-double scoring 16 points and securing ten rebounds. She also recorded six blocks and six assists to help UND end in a 70-60 win over the Titans.
SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA STATE
North Dakota State enters the game with a 4-6 overall record. The Bison opened their season with a 69-58 win in Milwaukee against the Panthers. They then traveled to Green Bay where they fell 54-71 for the first loss of the season. Their losing streak continued as they faced Northern Iowa (63-76) and Montana (63-65) at home. The streak would end with a 95-42 win at home against Dickinson State before they headed on the road again. The Bison traveled to Kansas State and fell again on the road, 57-78. They returned home and beat Bradley, 83-72. Once again, the Bison headed on the road and did not fair well as they faced #10/6 Arizona (47-59) and Wyoming (45-71). NDSU returned home to round out their non-conference play for the season against Jamestown. They won the game 82-36.
NEXT UP
Following Wednesday evening’s game, the University of North Dakota travels south after the holiday break to face the University of South Dakota on Dec. 30. That match-up will mark the last game of 2021 for the Fighting Hawks. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
