I no longer use Tinder – but this psychologist hit the nail right on the head when she delved into the meaning of Tinder profiles and the message you’re sending with your photos. Maryanne Fisher, a psychologist from Canada, analyzed hundreds of Tinder profiles and spoke with the men behind them – and found that our intuition when swiping is usually RIGHT.
The research shows that guys who display pictures of their dogs on their Tinder profile often want something serious when looking for a relationship – 80% of men who want to settle down and have a solid romantic relationship had photos with their furry friends. While some dudes looking just for a fling had dog photos as well, it was much more common on those looking for an actual partner.
Another thing Maryanne found that definitely isn’t surprising is men with SHIRTLESS pics are usually are just looking for something physical or short-lived. These types of guys are also going to be using pictures of them in vehicles or on boats – which also somehow makes sense as well.
I mean, props to Dr. Fisher for proving what we really already knew: Men are NOT hiding what they want in their Tinder profiles. Back when I used to swipe on the app occasionally, I could tell that the guy holding a bunch of alcohol and pretty much living in a pair of swim trunks in his photos probably wasn’t looking for a long-term relationship with his profile, at least not at that point and time.
The lowdown is basically: If you’re looking for something more serious, odds are you’re going to find that with a man that is proudly snuggling his pup in one of his Tinder photos. If you’re looking for just a fling or a fun night out, I would go with the guy displaying the sweaty six-pack at the gym in a mirror photo. Obviously not true in every case, but you do you, girl. I’m not gonna judge!
